Portland, Oregon (September 23, 2014) Gerber, a brand steeped in tradition, innovation and superior performance for 75 years, today introduced the new Vital Series. A collection of field-proven hunting products, the Vital Series includes two new knives with scalpel-sharp interchangeable blades, take-apart-shears, skinners and other intuitive designs to help users make quick work of game after a successful hunt.
Lightweight, reliable and simple to use, Gerber’s Vital Series products bridge the gap between breaking down game and getting back to camp before night falls. Ergonomic, rubber-coated handles provide outstanding grip in cold and wet conditions, while high-visibility orange accents ensure the series can be easily seen in the field. This new collection builds on Gerber’s already popular line of exchange a blade tools.
The Vital series is headlined by two Exchange-a-Blade knives. Featuring one of the safest interchangeable blade systems on the market, the Vital Pocket Folder ($42) contains a punishingly sharp surgical blade to cut through the cape of your game with ease. A large finger choil provides control and confidence, while a lock-back mechanism adds an added layer of safety and security. The inclusion of several replacement blades means you won’t get caught in the middle of skinning with a dull tool.
Delivering the same robust performance as its folding counterpart, the Vital Fixed Blade ($37) offers those who prefer fixed blades a razor sharp knife that travels to the field easily and packs a punch once it’s there. Vital Series knives require no extra tools for blade replacement, so it doesn’t slow the action of field dressing, while offering super-safe operation as an exchangeable blade knife. Each knife comes with six #60 replaceable razor blades.

The Vital Series features a host of additional game cleaning tools as well, including a pair of innovative Take-A-Part Shears ($16) expertly built to break down small game in one moment and to break down for easy storage the next. The serrated blade edges are perfect for cutting through tough jobs with speed and efficiency, making the Vital Take-a-Part Shears an effective tool for disassembling game in the field. The two blades separate easily and without bolts when pulled to the farthest angle, so they can be wiped down quickly for fast storage.
The Vital Skinner & Gut Knife ($19) possesses excellent edge retention and is easy to hold in navigating the awkward contours of large game thanks to its unique round expansion along the belly of the blade. The knife is equipped with a gut hook tip to maximize its competence in caping when the user’s arm reaches an exhaustion point. Its grippy rubber handle provides brawny push and pull strength to maximize precious time and energy employed in skinning and field dressing, and the high-visual Vital orange color makes it easy to spot if dropped during the task.
A smart addition to Gerber’s hunting category, the Vital Pack Saw ($19) manages its job with little fuss, storing away in its sheath and into a pocket or a gear bag with equal calm. With a clever blunt hooked tip and simple, straightforward structure, the innovative Vital Pack Saw makes the work of dressing big game wonderfully efficient, saving body strain and time. At the deft overall length of 6 inches, the Vital Pack Saw’s high-visual Vital orange handle is configured for great, solid grip while taking on the tedious task of skinning game. It packs tidily into its ballistic nylon sheath, which hooks neatly onto a belt for speedy access and storage.
