Portland, OR – When a handful of cyclists left Portland, Oregon bound for Salt Lake City, Utah in July 2007, Hybrid.Pedal took on a life of its own. The 900-mile cycling event generated plenty of media coverage along the way, thanks in part to filmmaker Dan Austin who documented every mile, generating tremendous visibility for conservation groups and activists working to protect wild places. A three-minute trailer on Hybrid.Pedal is available at http://www.keenfootwear.com/hybrid_pedal.aspx. The final full-length film will be posted online in October 2007.

The goal of Hybrid.Pedal was to generate awareness and visibility for The Conservation Alliance and its grantees. “We had hordes of people turn out at each stop along the way to show their support,” says Erika Bruhn, Marketing Manager for KEEN. “It was gratifying to have the event be so well-received in town after town, and to know that our efforts to help save our wild lands are paying off.”

Living a HybridLife is about creating, playing and caring. It is at the heart of what KEEN is all about. Hydrid.Pedal was conceived of as a way to generate awareness and visibility for The Conservation Alliance and its grantees. The Hybrid.Pedal route traveled 900 miles over 14 days from July 25-August 7, 2007, connecting the dots between many of the endangered wild lands and rivers that The Conservation Alliance has worked to protect, including the following wild places:

o Mount Hood Wilderness (Oregon Wild)
o Skyline Forest (Deschutes Basin Land Trust)
o The Badlands Wilderness (Oregon Natural Desert Association)
o Steens Mountain Wilderness (Oregon Natural Desert Association)
o Payette River (Idaho Rivers United)
o Boulder-White Clouds Wilderness (Idaho Conservation League)
o Wasatch-Cache NF Quiet Winter Recreation (Winter Wildlands Alliance)

It’s a hybrid approach for a HybridLife.â„¢
