(September 8, 2016; Santa Cruz, CA)–Giro Sport Design, the industry leader in progressive head protection for snow sports and cycling, is proud to launch a new brand video along with its new winter 2016/2017 products on Giro.com. Giro is offering five new MIPS helmet styles, four new EXV goggle styles, a new top-level race helmet called the Avance MIPS, and the Capsule Collection collaborations with Gerry Lopez Surfboards and the Descendents.

The addition of five new MIPS helmet styles bringing the total MIPS offering up to eleven helmets for 2017, with a MIPS helmet for every skier and rider. Options range from the high-end, fully featured men’s and women’s helmet styles to $75 Youth helmets to $80 adult freestyle options. Giro has spent years testing and collaborating with MIPS, and strongly believes that helmets equipped with this technology may provide an additional measure of protection in certain impacts by reducing rotational energy. New styles include women’s Stellar MIPS (MSRP $250), the unisex Zone MIPS and women’s Strata MIPS (MSRP $200), unisex Union MIPS and women’s Fade MIPS (MSRP $150).
Giro launched four new goggle styles that boast Expansion View Technology (EXV), underscoring their growing position as a leading goggle manufacturer. The unisex Balance goggle and the women’s Facet goggle enter the Giro goggle collection as new premium offerings with more classic full-frame style and Lenses by ZEISS available for MSRP $130. Other new additions include the Scan and Gaze, which deliver EXV benefits to an even wider audience at MSRP $70.
The new top level race helmet was designed to give the world’s best alpine ski racers a distinct safety advantage. Dubbed the Avance MIPS (French for ‘go forward’), the new helmet features new technologies that have been deployed to protect racers from a wide variety of impacts. The Avance MIPS will debut in the FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup in November 2016.
For the Winter 2016/2017 Capsule Collection collaborations, Giro has partnered with cultural icons, the Descendents and Gerry Lopez. The Descendents, a punk band known globally for their caffeine fueled pop songs about fishing, coffee, books and girls, have long inspired the creative processes at the Giro headquarters in Santa Cruz, California. Gerry Lopez Surfboards, a surfing legend and surfboard designer that discovered snowboarding in the 90s and translated his effortless style to frozen waves, and Giro share the same appreciate for the ride.
