GOLITE FOOTWEAR LAUNCHES NEW OUTDOOR CROSS TRAINING COLLECTION INSPIRED BY…THE MULLET

NEWMARKET, NH, January 6, 2012 – GoLite Footwear today announced a breakthrough innovation that brings its trail running technology to what the brand has dubbed Outdoor Cross Training – or OXT. “People don’t do just one activity when they go outdoors,” says GoLite Footwear CEO Doug Clark. “The terrain dictates what they do—one minute they’re hiking on a trail, the next they’re scrambling across sharp rocks, and when the terrain levels off a bit, they break into a run. Our collection of OXT footwear does it all without compromising anything.”

While examining the opportunity to engineer an entirely new category of outdoor footwear, Clark and his team found inspiration where none had looked before. “Our technology is like a mullet,” Clark explains. “Business in the front, party in the back.”

Breaking the this-or-that decision that outdoor enthusiasts often face—deciding between a light hiking shoe and a trail running shoe—the brand’s collection of OXT footwear offers the best of both worlds. GoLite Footwear’s President Scott Briggs explains, “The ‘business in the front’ refers to the forefoot of the shoe that’s a pure light hiker with a wide toe box, protective rand, lace-to-toe closure and lugs curving up the sides. The ‘party in the back’ refers to the heel of the shoe that’s all trail runner with a lightweight textile exterior and exposed EVA cushioning for greater agility. They work together to give people what they really need in the outdoors.”

Additionally, all styles in the collection feature GoLite’s exclusive Gecko 270 outsole with hundreds of tiny lugs, a Dynamic Fit System with a one-piece bootie lining and the zero-drop heel ported over from the brand’s trail running heritage. The sole also features the brand’s newest innovation, which GoLite calls 270° of Flex, that promotes a natural stride and full responsiveness to the terrain. “By combining these technologies with the unconventional thinking that went into the Outdoor Cross Training collection, we’ve ended up with the one lightweight shoe that can do it all. You can hike, rock scramble, trail run—and nothing’s going to slow you down,” concludes Clark.

Packed full of the technologies GoLite has developed for its groundbreaking line of trail running footwear, the collection will be introduced to retailers at the January 2012 Outdoor Retailer show, with a range of styles for men and women—and the flagship of the collection, the XT80. “We took the engineering we put into our trail running shoes and applied the principles to Outdoor Cross Training,” says Briggs. “The Rock Absorber sole puts the soft part of the outsole against the ground, where it absorbs rocks and roots, essentially leveling the terrain and providing traction like nothing else.”

The new Outdoor Cross Training collection with its flagship style—the XT80—will be available at premium outdoor specialty stores and prominent online retailers in fall 2012.
