{Kittery, ME} — It’s been one year since Jennifer Scism introduced her gourmet dehydrated meals to the masses and if one thing’s for sure, she and her husband/business partner David Koorits are short on sleep these days.
“One year. Neither Jen nor I can really believe it,” said Koorits. “The response has been fantastic and we’ve been working around the clock to get meals out so people can enjoy good food on their adventures. We have so much gratitude for our staff and those who have supported us. From our in-house staff who take on a thousand and one jobs, to our sales reps, retailers, and other partners who do an amazing job representing us and making us look good, they have all become part of the Good To-Go family. We are continually amazed to be surrounded by such great and hard working people.”
Good To-Go made its first sale to the Appalachian Mountain Club’s Pinkham Notch Visitor Center on in April 2014. A perfect first retailer—local to Good To-Go and pivotal in the history of the brand with many nights spent in the Whites testing recipes. Following the AMC, New Hampshire’s iconic Eastern Mountain Sports picked up the brand across its New England stores.
“At EMS, we decided to bring on Good To-Go meals because they’re really tasty, better for you than most of the other meal options out there, and they’re made by outdoor enthusiasts from the ground up. And being made in Maine, how could we not love them!”, said Brain Nasser, former assistant product manager, EMS.
Today, the brand is sold in over 110 stores and 300 doors offering four lightweight, dehydrated gourmet meals made with all natural ingredients, no preservatives or additives. Smoked Three Bean Chili, Herbed Mushroom Risotto, Classic Marinara with Penne and the Backpacker Editors’ Choice Award-winning Thai Curry are all gluten free and vegetarian, with the exception of the Thai Curry being suitable for pescatarians.
“Jen and I are truly astonished that we have gone from 1 to nearly 300 retail locations in a year and we are forever grateful to each of those stores for taking a risk and picking up a new product. Something a friend said to us when we first started comes to mind. ‘If Good To-Go doesn’t take off it’s because people have stopped eating.’ Only time will tell. We are busy keeping up with demand and also taking the next steps to grow and add more delicious, award winning meals. For those who love what we do and have been asking for more offerings, please know we are working hard to do just that. While Jen is the hardest working person I know and an artist in the kitchen, (yes, I am biased) we are where we are today because of everyone out there who has supported us. Thank you,” said Koorits.
In its first year, Good To-Go has fueled the adventures of weekend warriors, AMGA Guides, wilderness therapy programs, thru-hikers, sailors, former special forces teams providing medical assistance in developing countries, the Backpacker Get Out More Tour and many, many more.
The meals have also been awarded Gear Junkie’s Top Gear Picks for 2014 and the prestigious Backpacker Editors’ Choice Award for the Thai Curry.
Here’s what they’re saying on the trail about Good To-Go:
“Thanks for such a quality meal in the woods! THE BEST dehydrated meals I’ve had, hands down!“ Andrew W.
“I’ve had all 3 of the current dishes and I can’t really pick a favorite. They are all delicious and we even plan on keeping some on hand in our house for a quick meal…” Jeff H.
“So easy, so light, but also so delicious and satisfying. My favorite is the Curry- loved the flavor and the great veggies in there.” Sarah B.
