Goodhew, makers of high-performance lifestyle socks, is excited to be working with Chargeurs Wool, a wool processing facility that will offer the only domestic wool continuous sliver Superwash process, rendering US wool machine washable. This shrink resist process prevents wool felting so wool can be machine washed and tumbled dried.
“Shrink treating wool is critical to maintaining the superior quality of our socks,†notes Goodhew co-founder, Jim Markley. “In recent years, all shrink resist treatments have been done overseas. The ability to use this technology domestically brings us one step closer to our ultimate objective of reducing our carbon footprint and having all elements of production conducted in the US.â€
The American Sheep Industry Association, a national organization that represents the interests of US wool producers, was responsible for championing this key initiative and making it a reality. â���œWe are pleased to have championed a project, bringing a washable wool process to the United States; providing easy-care wool products to the consumer, without having the products traveling all around the world to be processed,†states Rita Kourlis Samuelson, Wool Marketing Director.
Chargeurs Wool USA, located in Jamestown, SC, will have the washable wool process in full working order later this fall. Goodhew hopes to reach their objective of sourcing domestic wool and conducting all levels of production in the US and Canada for all their socks by 2011.
