To celebrate the spirit of The GoPro Mountain Games and mountain families all over the country, the Vail Valley Foundation, organizers of the annual event, went on a search for the “Ultimate Mountain Family.“ After two weeks of photo contest entries, The Edge family of Moab, Utah, submitted the winning photo and has been named the 2014 GoPro Mountain Games “Ultimate Mountain Family.”

“Being chosen as the Ultimate Mountain Family is an affirmation that we’re living life right and raising our son to appreciate amazing adventures in the great outdoors,” states Melissa Edge about her family.

Out of hundreds of photo contest submissions, the public voted five families as finalists in the search for the “Ultimate Mountain Family.” Out of those five finalists, Bret and Melissa Edge and their son Jackson had the winning contest entry. The Edge family will be awarded a deluxe prize package that includes two nights lodging at a Vail hotel during the games, free-race entries for the entire family, VIP gift bags and a stockpile of premium outdoor gear including a GoPro HERO3+ camera and accessories, a prize package from Thule worth over $1,100, an Eddie Bauer tent and apparel, Gerber Gear multi-tool, 2 pairs of Native Eyewear shades, Klean Kanteen water bottles, a LED Lensor headlamp, a Fugoo Portable Speaker System and more. The four other finalists will receive $50 gift cards courtesy of Eddie Bauer and a free pair of Native Eyewear sunglasses. The GoPro Mountain Games has a long history of offering family friendly activities and competitions.

In 2013, nearly a quarter of attendees were families and almost three quarters of families brought along kids under the age of 18. Over the course of the four-day festival kids can try kayaking, rock climbing, stand-up paddling, yoga, slacklining and ziplining, all for free. Kids under 12 can also race for free in the Thule X-Country Mountain Bike race on Vail Mountain. Another popular family activity is “swag hunting” in Gerber Gear Town, where over 80 different exhibitors offer free prizes, demos and product samples.
