Biddeford, Maine: Grand Canyon slot canyon expert & 2012 Outside Mag “Adventurer of the Year” Rich Rudow has joined the Hyperlite Mountain Gear Ambassador Team just prior to one of his most significant adventures.
“Rich has spent more time beneath the rim than any other slot canyon explorer and has more than 100 first descents,” stated Hyperlite Mountain Gear CEO Mike St. Pierre. “He brings 25 years of knowledge and a serious adventurer’s ethic to our team. Plus he’s the former General Manager of Trimble Outdoors. We’re thrilled to have this skilled multi-sport explorer and entrepreneur as an athlete, and we’re excited to support him and his team on his next big trip.”
This October, Rudow, Dave Nally and Dave Atwood will embark on an entirely self-supported, 56-day trek down river in the Grand Canyon. Because of the harsh terrain and lack of trails and drinking water, fewer than ten people have thru hiked the Grand Canyon in this way.
“There is no guide to this Grand Canyon thru hike,” Rudow stated. “You must have fully dialed in backpacking systems, balancing the crucial need for lightweight with extreme durability, which is why we are using Hyperlite Mountain Gear’s packs and shelters. You can’t make any mistakes on a trip like this.” Read a full report on the October 2015 trip on the Hyperlite Mountain Gear blog.
Hyperlite Mountain Gear CEO Mike St. Pierre and a National Geographic film crew will join Rudow for the first 16 days of the thru hike. For more information, please email Lizzy Scully at lizzy@hyperlitemountaingear.com or call 303-903-2768.
