Grand Trunk Provides Comfort and Relaxation for the Lone Survivor Foundation Crystal Beach Retreat Facility
Outdoor and adventure travel brand donates hammocks and other items to facility serving veterans
Skokie, IL — (April 29, 2015)—Grand Trunk, makers of goods for the road less traveled, is proud to show its support to the Lone Survivor Foundation, a 501 (c)3 non-profit dedicated to help wounded service members and their families through health, wellness and therapeutic support. Grand Trunk will supply its award-winning Double Nylon Parachute Hammocks and Parasheet Beach Blankets in an effort to create an atmosphere of relaxation and comfort for veterans and their families at the Foundation’s new retreat facility in Crystal Beach, Texas.
Not only one of summer’s favorite pastimes, ‘hammocking’ also provides proven stress-relieving benefits. Research shows the gentle swinging motion provided by a hammock improves sleep quality and concentration for reading and learning. Lying in a hammock also eliminates pressure points and aligns the spine, relaxing muscles and stimulates better blood circulation. And no day at the beach is complete without Grand Trunk’s Parasheet Beach Blanket. Compact, lightweight and durable, this product fulfills the proper beach blanket in humid climates by repelling moisture and ensuring zero mildew.
Founded by US Navy SEAL (Ret.) Marcus Luttrell, the Lone Survivor Foundation celebrates the grand opening of its Crystal Beach Retreat facility in Texas this month. The foundation-owned facility provides all-expenses paid, educational and therapeutic retreats for service members, veterans and their families learning to cope with the invisible wounds of war.
“We are grateful to those who have so willingly sacrificed for this country,” states Jon Neff, co-founder of Grand Trunk and Marine Corps Veteran Sgt. “It’s an honor to support the Foundation and we applaud their efforts to provide care, therapy and support to these wounded heroes.”
The U.S. has seen 1.9 million new veterans since October of 2001. Of those veterans, close to 40-percent will be diagnosed with some form of a combat-related invisible injury focused on by the Lone Survivor Foundation: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), minor Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI), Military Sexual Trauma (MST), and/or chronic pain. The symptoms of these wounds extend beyond the service member and veterans often causing secondary PTSD within the family unit. Lone Survivor Foundation’s Executive Director Terry Jung stresses the facility’s importance, “As the number of veterans needing services continues to rise, it is the Lone Survivor Foundation’s goal to grow and expand to meet the need.”
