Granite Gear and MMI Win Significant Contract for Special Ops CHIEF Patrol Packs

A leading innovator in the design and construction of quality outdoor gear, Granite Gear will supply the US Special Operations Forces with up to 45,000 of its CHIEF Patrol Packs over the next 5 years.

Granite Gear, a leading innovator in the design and construction of quality outdoor gear, today announced the company has been awarded a significant government contract to supply the US Special Operations Forces (SOF) with up to 45,000 of its CHIEF Patrol Packs over the next 5 years.

The contract was granted through Natick’s Special Operations Office after an extensive source selection process and rigorous testing of packs from six other companies.

“We are very excited to be outfitting the Special Operations Forces with our CHIEF Patrol Pack,” said Jeff Knight, founder and lead designer at Granite Gear. “We’ve always believed that we design and manufacture some of the best gear available and receiving validation like this from such a hard core group of users certainly adds to that credibility.”

Developed by Granite Gear and manufactured by Montgomery Marketing, Inc. (MMI) in Puerto Rico, the new CHIEF Patrol Pack will offer the SOF expanded tactical features, improved mobility (with or without body armor), and innovative details to further enhance their operational capabilities. Using tried and true technology from its consumer product line, and incorporating direct product feedback from forces in the field, the new CHIEF Patrol Pack combines exceptional freedom of movement, optimal comfort, convenience and versatility into one extremely innovative tactical pack.

Completely customizable, some of the unique features of the CHIEF Patrol Pack include:

• Three-Dimensional engineered frame sheet with three distinct zones of flexibility to absorb shock, control weight transfer, and stabilize the load.

• Body Armor Compatible Harness (BACH) – a new body armor compatible shoulder strap/harness system that allows for maximum range of motion.

• Double hydration system with 200 fluid oz. capacity and Gravity Feed Design

• Full body front access panel with proven Granite Gear compression technology.

• Radio pocket with antenna ports and convenience wiring features.

• Made with Cordura®, the most trusted source for military pack fabrics

Granite Gear anticipates the delivery of the first run of CHIEF Patrol Packs to occur in the spring of 2009, for immediate deployment into the field.

“With deep roots in the outdoor world, our sole focus has always been to build the best gear possible,” said Knight. “Like outdoor junkies, some of the hardest gear users on the planet are members of the military and law enforcement – and with no room for error, the gear they use has to be the best. We are very proud that the Special Operations Forces have chosen us to make the right gear for them,” he added.

A division of Granite Gear, Granite Tactical Gear outfits military, law enforcement and other security forces with proven designs and advanced fabrication. More Granite Tactical Gear, as well as comparable versions of the CHIEF Patrol Pack, can be found at high quality retailers like Extreme Outfitters and Blue Line Gear and through the distributor SMG Tactical.
