The Grassroots Outdoor Alliance Membership has been on the move throughout 2007-2008. The group has been adding new retailers, and Members have been building and renovating new stores and distribution centers. In 2007 a number of retailers opened Green Building Locations, notably Half-Moon Outfitters whose Charleston location was LEED Certified Platinum (the first in South Carolina) & Rock/Creek who opened it’s Headquarters in the new Environmental Building at Two North Shore in Chattanooga.
From 2007 to 2008 our membership grew to 34 adding key retailers in Oregon, Colorado, & Idaho. Peak Sports in Corvallis, OR joined the group in August 2007 and brings 36 years of experience outfitting the Northwest college town. Idaho Mountain Touring in Boise, ID joined Grassroots in October 2007 and have been in business since 1984. Lastly, at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market, we announced the addition of Summit Canyon Mountaineering which brings two great locations in Western Colorado. With these additions, Grassroots boasts 71 locations in 23 states. Within the next six months, this number will grow to 75 locations, with new stores opening in New Orleans, LA New Haven, CT and Atlanta, GA.
In February, Half-Moon Outfitters opened new doors in the College town of Athens, GA. In March, Owner Beezer Molten announced the addition of a new location in Atlanta, and in Summer 2008 a second Green Building location in South Charleston, SC.
Trailblazer, the foremost outdoor retailer in Connecticut, announced plans to move back to it’s original location in New Haven, and open two additional concept stores called, Denali (now Open) & Traffic (May 2008). The move broadens Trailblazer’s reach in New Haven and supports their other stores in Branford and at Mohegan Sun.
In April 2008 Massey’s Professional Outfitters will open a new location in downtown New Orleans, further cementing the outfitters roots in the city. The new location will be a retail store, as well as operations and distribution center for the brick and mortar stores and Massey’s online store.
Now more than ever it is important to support your local Grassroots retailers. Our members are some of the most experienced and respected in the outdoor retail industry. Our retailers represent many outdoor pursuits, so whether you are a Climber, Hiker, Kite boarder, or just like to take your dog to the local park we have everything you need to enjoy yourself outdoors.
