Grassroots Outdoor Alliance (Grassroots) was recently nominated in the company category for the fourth annual Outdoor Inspiration Awards.
Winners were announced at a special recognition event January 25th at the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market held in the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City Utah. Created by Adidas Outdoor, the Outdoor Inspiration Awards recognize individuals, groups and companies whose efforts are breaking new ground and encouraging others to participate in outdoor activities.
Winners included: Timbuk2, in the company category, NOLS: Expedition Denali in the group category; and Timmy O’Neil in the individual category. This year, Jeff Lowe was granted a special Lifetime Achievement award.
Kenji Haroutunian, Emerald EXPO Outdoor Group VP and Outdoor Retailer Show Director shared his thoughts on Grassroots receiving a nomination, “Grassroots Outdoor Alliance stands out from the organizations in the outdoor industry in that they truly work to curate and represent the best of the North American specialty outdoor retailer. Few other organizations focus on this critical group of businesses; local retailers are the touch point for interested consumers and often at the center of the active outdoor communities across the country. We (at Outdoor Retailer) have seen Grassroots’ efforts and programs expand over the past few years and having Roanne Miller at the helm of the organization has moved it to a new level. We expect to strengthen our support of Grassroots in the future and congratulate both Grassroots and their member retailers on raising the bar to benefit the whole industry. “
While Grassroots did not win the award, the organization was in the top 3 finalists along with Timbuk2 and United by Blue in the company category.
Chris Howe, retail member of Grassroots and member of Grassroots Board of Directors adds, “To be identified for our achievements in the industry and in all of the 47 local communities our membership works with is an award in itself. We are honored to be nominated and this will inspire us to work even harder to encourage people to participate in outdoor activities.”
