Grassroots Outdoor Alliance Welcomes Diamond Brand Outdoors

Grassroots Outdoor Alliance is pleased to announce that Diamond Brand Outdoors has joined our Alliance.

Based in Asheville, NC, Diamond Brand operates two retail locations: Diamond Brand Outdoors and the Frugal Backpacker.

Diamond Brand Canvas Products, the company’s manufacturing arm, was established in Philadelphia in 1881. They have been a leader in the manufacturing of fabric-based sewn gear since 1920 when they began to manufacture tarpaulins and other similar heavy canvas products. One interesting historical tidbit is that they manufactured the very first backpack for the Boy Scounts of America in 1931.

Today, they still manufacture for the Boy Scouts, as well as other products including military gear, outdoor gear, water sports gear and their own proprietary line of dive luggage and bags.

Diamond Brand opened it’s retail store, Diamond Brand Outdoors, in 1964 and has been voted Best Outdoor Shop in western North Carolina 7 years in a row!
