Berkeley, CA- GU Energy Labs, the originator of energy gels, today announced the introduction of GU Recovery Brew.
Designed to aid in the physical revitalization of muscles after intense workouts, the formulation of GU Recovery Brew is expected to be a significant advancement in recovery nutrition.
GU Recovery Brew provides the athlete with a convenient, tasty and effective solution to post-exercise recovery. While Recovery Brew quickly replenishes energy stores, a high performance blend of vitamins, protein, amino acids, and antioxidants help rebuild depleted muscles.
GU Recovery Brew relies on premium whey protein isolate to create a higher-quality and more effective product. Amino acids, including Arginine and Glutamine, promote recovery by mitigating the wear and tear of intense training and supporting a strong immune system.
GU president Brian Vaughan said, “GU Recovery Brew significantly impacts the recovery drink category by offering a critical training tool that not only has a serious performance benefit, but also tastes great. All too often, drinks containing protein are unpalatable. We’re thrilled to bring a recovery product to market that athletes will actually enjoy consuming.â€
Like all GU Energy products, an optimal combination of simple and complex carbohydrates remains a staple in this new offering. Recovery Brew’s carbohydrate blend consists of maltodextrin, enabling speedy uptake of nutrients, and crystalline fructose, contributing a subtle but tasty sweetness.
Similar to GU’s original energy gels, and GU Chomps energy chews, GU Recovery Brew contains generous portions of antioxidants – including 100% of the RDA of vitamins C and E to further aid recovery from hard workouts.
GU Recovery Brew will have a retail roll-out beginning June 1st. Available in Strawberry-Watermelon and Orange –Pineapple, each packet will contain 250 calories and 8 grams of protein per serving. The retail cost is expected to be $2.70 per single-serving packet and $32.00 per 14-serving canister.
The launch of GU Recovery Brew is the first step in a complete revamping of its sports drink product line. GU Brew will eventually encompass not only Recovery, but also GU’s current electrolyte formula and future high-performance drink formulas.
