Guyot Designs, Inc, inventor of the SplashGuard® and leading innovator in outdoor accessories products, expands beyond standard green responsibility with its C-Minus program. Within this initiative, more than all the carbon emissions from the products’ development and distribution are offset, rendering the product beyond carbon neutral, but as carbon negative.
As outlined on the Guyot Designs website, the C-Minus program was designed in conjunction with the Environmental Resources Trust, a Washington, D.C. based non-profit that provides rigorous evaluations of green house gas offset projects. Guyot Designs has purchased and retired offsets through ERT’s greenhouse registry.
Every stainless steel bottle sold through the Guyot Design website is part of the program. Each of the bottles produced carries 100lbs of verified green house gas emissions reductions. In addition, every set of Microbites utensils sold offsets 25lbs of carbon emissions.
“Our vision,†says Guyot co-founder Sloan Russell, “is to combine environmental responsibility with corporate ethics to create a new type of outdoor design company that treats the environment with complete reverence. We are proud to have a positive impact on the planet with our C-Minus program.â€
A unique, extended benefit to C-Minus is that the consumer has full visibility into the process. Each product in the program receives an individual serial number that can be used on the Guyot web site to locate the specific sales transaction that purchased and retired the carbon offsets.
The C-Minus program was noted in the Green Gear Report Card article in the March 2008 edition of Backpacker Magazine. This editorial, as cited by Backpacker journalist, Berne Broudy, was the first industry-wide survey spotlighting gear manufacturers that are positively impacting the environment.
Guyot Designs’ philosophy, since the very beginning, has included a deep concern and respect for merging the social and natural worlds responsibly. To take an extensive look into Guyot Designs additional products and green initiative programs, visit them at the Outdoor Retailer Show later this summer in Salt Lake City, Utah at booth number 34177 (subject to change).
