SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. – Apri 26, 2012 – The organizers of the Health+Fitness Business Expo (HFB), the annual trade show for the North American retail fitness industry, announce a partnership with fitness business veteran and journalist Therese Iknoian to act as consultant and ambassador to the industry. Iknoian, the former editor-in-chief and co-owner of the insider trade news service SNEWS, will bring her extensive industry expertise and personal connections with key fitness retailers and suppliers to the show.
“I’ve been a supporter of HFB for years and am a big believer in its value to exhibitors and attendees,” Iknoian said. “The show and the fitness industry have gone through some big changes over the last few years, and I’m excited to get out there and be able to officially represent the show to help to ensure that HFB continues to meet and exceed the expectations of suppliers and retailers.”
“Therese was such a valuable part of our long and continuing relationship with SNEWS, and we’re thrilled to be able to keep working with her now that she’s on her own,” said Pat Hus, HFB’s managing director. “There’s no equal to Therese’s relationships, insider knowledge and general enthusiasm for the fitness industry. She will be a wonderful asset to have on board with our team to help best serve our fitness customers.”
Iknoian will work as a consultant to the HFB team from her office in Grass Valley, Calif., providing insight and feedback from the industry and investigating new opportunities for the show and its constituents. She will also write regular editorial content for the monthly HFB industry eNewsletter sent to retailers and exhibitors. Together, HFB and Iknoian plan to strengthen the show as a must-attend event and to continue to increase its relevance and value to the industry.
Therese began her career as a daily newspaper journalist before turning to freelancing books and magazine articles specializing in fitness and training as she finished a master’s degree in kinesiology. Along with her husband Michael Hodgson, Iknoian purchased outdoor trade newsletter SNEWS in 2001 and added fitness news. Under their leadership, the newsletter–and later website and magazine–grew to become the most important, trusted and widely read source of business-to-business news and information for the two industries. The pair sold SNEWS in December of 2007 to Active Interest Media (AIM). Iknoian left AIM in December 2011 and, with Hodgson, re-launched their former Adventure Network.com / TotalFitnessNetwork.com website and turned to independent consulting and writing through their HI Endeavors consulting firm.
