Fourth annual national competition revives spirited U.S. running tradition

GOLETA, CALIF. – August 15, 2017

Effective today, HOKA ONE ONE®, a division of Deckers Brands (NYSE: DECK), announced registration for the 2017 Postal Nationals competition is open. Reviving a tradition from the 1970s, the HOKA ONE ONE Postal Nationals allows high school cross-country teams from every state to compete against each other in a timed two-mile race on the track. To receive a ranking, teams average and then submit the time of their top five finishers.

All cross country teams from around the country are invited to participate for a chance to compete for the championship. Now in its fourth year, more than 1,500 teams are expected to register with more than 6,000 student athletes competing in a Postal National event this fall.

“Postal Nationals allows high school cross-country teams to see how they stack up not only against other teams in their state, but against teams across the country throughout the year,” said Mike McManus, Senior Sports Marketing Manager at HOKA ONE ONE. “Cross-country is a sport where everyone gets to compete and have a shot at a title, and Postal Nationals embodies that. We at HOKA are thrilled to support this program again in 2017, because we are an inclusive brand and embrace opportunities for everyone to compete in this great sport.”

Featuring multiple ways to participate, the competition includes five regional championships, dozens of local Postal races, and a team time trial. Larger championship-style flagship events are also slated to be held in Sacramento, San Diego, Memphis, Chicago, and Winston-Salem throughout the fall.

In 2016, the boys of Brentwood High School in Nashville, Tennessee, took home the victory on the men’s side with an astounding 9:18 two-mile average. On the women’s side, the runners of Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh, North Carolina, won the overall championship with an impressive 11:12 two-mile average.
