Hyperlite Mountain Gear Launches Ultralight Dyneema® Duffel Bag

August 14, 2015: Hyperlite Mountain Gear recently launched an ultralight Dyneema® Duffel Bag as part of their new Dyneema® Series. This duffel is the lightest on the market for its size, weighing just 2.61 lbs. (including the .31-lb shoulder strap). It’s made out of a waterproof, woven Dyneema®/Cuben Fiber hybrid, and is longer and narrower than the standard outdoor industry duffel bag.
“We designed this duffel bag with guided trips and big expeditions in mind,” said CEO Mike St. Pierre. “It nestles perfectly into a Paris Expedition Sled, which is the standard for trips to Antarctica or Denali. But, it’s also super versatile, easy to throw into and out of your truck or drag through the airport.”
St. Pierre designed the bag because he couldn’t find a lightweight option. “I needed something for my packrafting trips, as well as for trade shows and all the events we attend,” he explained. “I got tired of carrying the heavier options around, so I just built my own.”
And woven Dyneema® fabric was the obvious choice. “It’s the strongest, lightest and most waterproof material available in the outdoor industry,” St. Pierre said. “At this point I wouldn’t use anything else.”
