Boulder, CO (December 7, 2021)—A new film from POW Alliance Member, legendary skier and filmmaker Mike Douglas and Switchback Entertainment follows the story of 13-year-old Sam Tierney’s journey to climate advocacy.  In the 30-minute, short film, Douglas helps Tierney work through his climate anxiety and turn it into action by sharing parallels to his career as a professional skier. Sam & Me is presented by Salomon and Protect Our Winters, as part of POW’s first year of grants.

Sam & Me will premiere in an exclusive, one-night, double feature on December 14 hosted by POW. The film will be followed by a Q&A with Douglas, Tierney and 14-year-old pro snowboarder and new POW Alliance member Bea Kim.

“We had two goals in mind when making this film. The first was to empower young people to find solutions and not give up hope on climate action. The second was to make a climate film that is inspiring rather than depressing. Hopefully we succeeded,” says Mike Douglas, pro skier, member of the POW Athlete Alliance and director/narrator/co-star of Sam & Me.

RSVP for the Dec 14th premiere events at 7pm and 8:30 pm MST

At 13 years old, Sam was in a dark place. His climate anxiety was so bad he was having trouble sleeping at night. In an attempt to ease his stress, Sam writes to pro skier and climate advocate Mike Douglas asking for advice. Seeing some of his own young self in Sam, Mike invites him on a weekly ski meet-up to talk about climate, skiing and life. In the process the duo share some epic ski days, and  an inspirational message that can help others jumpstart their own personal climate advocacy journeys.

Sam & Me  is an official selection of the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival, BBK Mendi Film and Kendal Mountain Festival.
