Outdoor Industry Urges Congress ‘Don’t Give Away the Recreation Economy’

Outdoor Industry Association to testify during House Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands Hearing on H.R. 1581

What: Frank Hugelmeyer, President and CEO of Outdoor Industry Association, will testify before the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands hearing on “Legislative Hearing on H.R. 2578 and H.R. 1581.”

When:
10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2011

Where: 1334 Longworth HOB

Why:  H.R. 1581 Wilderness and Roadless Release Act of 2011 proposes to release roughly 62 million acres of federally managed lands from protection, including seven million acres of Wilderness Study Areas (WSA) managed by the Bureau of Land Management and 55 million acres of Roadless lands managed by the Forest Service. OIA opposes H.R. 1581 and urges Congress to take approach that balances and considers a full spectrum of uses that recognizes outdoor recreation within the nation’s roadless and wilderness areas.
