Friedrichshafen, Germany – There are many indications that the 16th edition of the leading international trade show for nature sports is on course for continued growth. Thanks to the expansion of the facilities, OutDoor 2009 (16-19 July) will have the honour of introducing a new foyer, conference rooms and additional press centre, and two new halls have been added to provide a total of 85,000 square meters of exhibition space. With over 600 exhibitors registered for the event (a 13% increase) from 39 countries, OutDoor 2009 has reported a record demand compared to this time of year in 2008.

The outdoor segment ranks among the most stable sectors of the sporting goods business. The trade show team at Friedrichshafen can sense the continued optimism in the outdoor industry and is expecting all worldwide leading brands and many big names to attend the 16th OutDoor. After a two-year break, global player adidas has returned to the event. “adidas intends to continue to position itself as an athletic and authentic brand in the outdoor segment. The trade show represents the next big step in our long-term plans. OutDoor is an ideal platform to present product innovations such as Terrex and, at the same time, engage in conversations with specialists,” says Rolf Reinschmidt, Senior Vice President Global Outdoor.
“It’s good news for us that OutDoor is the largest trade show exhibition in the outdoor segment for adidas,” says Messe Friedrichshafen CEO Klaus Wellmann.
More than ever before, this year’s OutDoor is serving as a platform for introducing innovations and product debuts. “With our main theme ‘Innovation and Technology,’ we are focusing on new developments, both at the product level and in terms of sales in the retail trade,” says Project Manager Stefan Reisinger. “And the OutDoor Industry Award is once again an impressive showcase for new ideas on the market.”

The improved traffic concept has been given the green light. Currently, the district of Bodenseekreis is expanding the north entrance to the exhibition grounds. There are also plans to widen the south entrance to four lanes. In addition, a parking strip and enlarged shoulder is planned for both sides of the road. All of these construction projects are already being launched this year and should be open to traffic by the summer of 2010. Starting in mid-May, trade show visitors who travel to Friedrichshafen by train will have the option of booking discount tickets from German railways, Deutsche Bahn, via the new OutDoor online platform.
