Ivan Basso wins Giro d’Italia wearing eVent® Fabric

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (June 1, 2006) – Ivan Basso of Team CSC took first place in this month’s Giro d’Italia wearing Descente Athletic cycling jackets made with eVent Fabric, a technology that is part of the GE Energy portfolio.
This year’s Giro was won by Basso in dominant fashion. Basso won three individual stages, as well as the team time trial along with his fellow CSC riders. With an overall time of 91 hours and 33 minutes, Basso finished more than 9 minutes ahead of second-place José Gutierrez. This was, the largest margin of victory in a Grand Tour in three years.
According to Hugh Walton, president of Descente Athletic, Team CSC specifically requested eVent Fabric in their team outwear, calling it the best in breathable protection. “When we began working with Team CSC they insisted that the cyclists’ jackets be made with eVent Fabric,†said Walton. “Their experience in extremely challenging conditions showed that eVent Fabric provides the best combination of breathability and protection.â€
