JanSport, the original outdoor gear Brand that equips people globally with quality backpacks, travel gear and collegiate apparel, today announced that it will embark on the 39th annual Rainier Seminar, led by world-renowned guiding service International Mountain Guides (IMG). This is JanSport’s second annual partnership with IMG based out of Ashford, WA. The goal of this partnership is to leverage the experience of IMG’s world-renowned guides and provide JanSport with a means to test its newest technical outdoor gear.
The 39th annual Rainier Seminar brings together 16 individuals from around the globe to Mount Rainier, a 14,410-foot mountain in Washington. From retail buyers to JanSport home office and international employees, to media and outdoor industry friends, this life-changing adventure personifies JanSport’s outdoor heritage and authenticity. The JanSport Rainier Seminar introduces many new climbers to the world of alpine mountaineering, hiking nearly 18 miles roundtrip and gaining 9,000 vertical feet, creating memories and forging friendships that will last a lifetime.
“For 39 years, the JanSport Rainier climb has been an annual tradition that provides JanSport employees, retailers and industry partners an on-mountain experience that is invaluable for product testing and brand camaraderie,†said Courtney Blacker, JanSport director of brand marketing. “IMG has been guiding on Rainier since the early 70s, so the partnership is one built on mutual trust and long-time respect. We look forward to continuing the relationship for years to come.â€
Beginning June 20, 2011, all 16 JanSport Rainier Seminar Climb participants will embark on the Brand’s 39th annual trip to Mount Rainier. After arriving in Ashford, the climbers will be split into two teams of eight to depart on their adventure up Rainier’s famed Emmons and Disappointment Cleaver routes. These multi-day summit climbs will be led by partner and chief guide, George Dunn, and seven other IMG guiding experts divided equally amongst the two climbing teams.
“We’ve been friends with Skip Yowell and the JanSport team for over 30 years now and are thrilled to be officially partnered with JanSport as our pack sponsor,†said Tye Chapman, IMG’s operation manager. “What’s great about this partnership is we get to put it into action every year on Mount Rainier for the annual JanSport Climb. Two great companies showing off our strengths together.â€
Both groups are slated to reach the summit of Rainier on June 24. All IMG Seminar participants will be outfitted with the new JanSport Pro Series Tahoma backpack, the perfect lightweight, technical pack engineered exclusively for International Mountain Guides team of expert climbers.
