Williston, VT– After a year of social media engagement to find the right match, Julbo USA is proud to announce two winners of the Julbo Glen University Session (JGUS) and the brand’s next generation of up and coming ski mountaineers. Next month, Tom Runcie of Crested Butte, Colo. and Christopher (CJ) Carter of Bozeman, Mont. will travel to Julbo’s motherland of Chamonix to ski under the mentorship of Julbo athlete and legendary freeskier, Glen Plake.

After several social media contests ranging from backcountry quizzes to video and photo submissions from hundreds of eager, qualified and skilled skiers, Julbo USA selected Runcie and Carter based on their skiing and mountaineering expertise, genuine personalities and enthusiasm to be ambassadors for the Julbo brand.

On March 8, the two JGUS winners will depart the U.S. for Chamonix to spend four full days honing their ski mountaineering skills with Plake. Splitting time between the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the French Alps, Plake considers the mountains of Chamonix the birthplace of ski mountaineering and looks to share the mythical skiing mecca with Runcie and Carter.

Following Chamonix, the JGUS winners will continue on to another European destination – Zermatt, Switzerland – with Swatch Freeride World Tour athlete, Samuel Anthamatten. The Zermatt-bred local mountain guide and accomplished Julbo athlete will host Runcie and Carter in his home mountains for an unforgettable skiing experience.

“Chamonix and Zermatt are not for the faint-hearted, as the mountains there truly test every bit of ones mental and physical strengths,” said Julbo USA’s CEO, Nick Yardley. “However, the JGUS winners are certainly not rookies in the mountains and they share a passion for the sport that this experience will only amplify.”

Runcie’s love for skiing took him from rallying gates in the Northeast to slaying powder and big lines near Crested Butte, Colo. With three years of competing on the Freeskiing World Tour under his belt, Runcie understands the focus and determination necessary to tackle the mountains.

An experienced mountaineer, Carter has posted first descents in Alaska, Montana, Wyoming and Nepal. Carter’s composure for big mountain skiing comes from years of training and the ice axe, rope and crampon usage in Chamonix will not come as any surprise.

Remaining true to their mountaineering heritage and motherland of Chamonix, the Julbo Glen University Session is a reflection of Julbo’s desire to find the right ski representation and ambassadors for the Julbo family and Julbo’s goggle collection, boasting the most advanced lens technology on the market. As two accomplished skiers who both demonstrate passion for the mountains and skiing, Julbo and Glen Plake are proud to provide both Runcie and Carter with a lifetime experience leading towards the ultimate goal of a lifetime partnership between the brand and the new team riders.
