COMO, Italy (11 April 2016) – JV International (JVI), the global strategic partner chosen by MICHELIN® for the design, development and manufacturing of high-performance MICHELIN-branded technical soles, has joined the Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) to support its brand partners in North America.

OIA, based in Boulder, Colo., was founded in 1989, and serves over 1,200 organizations, including over 4,000 employees of manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, sales representatives, and retailers in the outdoor industry. It is the nation’s premier trade association for companies and organizations that care about the outdoors.

JVI is based in Italy with partnership offices in Como and a design and product development center in Verona. MICHELIN tire-inspired footwear outsoles are targeted for the outdoors, work and safety, lifestyle and extreme sports. In the U.S., this rugged footwear is available at retail stores that carry shoes manufactured by Northwave, Ride, Salewa, TCX and Under Armour. Further partnerships include Kodiak Group Holdings Co., Hi-Tec, Magnum and other brands.

“Our company headquarters are located within sight of the world famous Dolomite Mountains in northeastern Italy, home to skiing, hiking and biking to name a few outdoor pursuits. Outdoor recreation is near and dear to our hearts,” said Filippo Sartor, partnership development manager of MICHELIN-branded Technical Soles.

“Through the OIA and working closely with our brand partners, we hope to help promote the importance of environmental conservation and outdoor recreation both in North America and wherever else our technical soles are used,” Sartor said.

Adds Ingrid Malmberg, OIA director of membership, “Ingredient suppliers such as MICHELIN-branded soles play a key role in the diversity of our membership and the outdoor products ecosystem. As an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), we look forward to MICHELIN’S active engagement in the association’s work to unite and grow the industry and get more people outside.”

Tires and shoes share the same vocabulary: track, sole, tread, roll, stability, safety, performance, rubber and fabric. The added value that the team of designers of MICHELIN Technical Soles offers the market, along with its footwear partner designers, is the development of a sole inspired by MICHELIN tires. Unique aspects of these premium tires are integrated with the structure of the shoes providing them with MICHELIN’s “ground contact” technology and the expertise of its brand partners.
