Kate’s Real Food continues to grow its ambassador team, adding two prominent female athletes, Kalen Thorien and Shannon Galpin, to their arsenal. As leading competitors in skiing and mountain biking respectfully, they set examples for women everywhere that go above and beyond their athleticism.

Kate Schade, founder and innovator at KRF, is pleased to add these women to her squad. “We look for ambassadors who bring more than just athletic talent to our team,” says
Schade. “Both Kalen and Shannon show skill and determination that extends far beyond their sport and into the communities they live in and travel to.”

Shannon Galpin, recently chosen as a National Geographic’s Adventurer of the Year, uses her love of mountain biking to challenge gender barriers. In 2006, motivated by her own rape, she founded Mountain2Mountain to combat apathy toward women in conflict zones. Three years later she became the first woman to mountain bike in Afghanistan, a country that doesn’t women to ride bikes.

“Its an honor to be included as an ambassador for Kate’s,” says Shannon, recently returned from her latest Middle Eastern adventure. “Its pretty much nonstop when I’m in Afghanistan, and it’s handy to have a Kate’s bar to keep energy up. It’s also a go-to meal when I’m in the countryside, and missed meals are quite normal.”

Kalen Thorien is a force to watch out for in the free-skiing industry. Most recently featured in an amazing cover shot on the October issue of Powder, she is also one of few female wildland firefighters. Using her fortitude and athleticism to save communities from devastation, Kalen is an amazing advocate for the Kate’s team because she both uses and protects our outdoor playgrounds.

“I’m beyond stoked to be fed by real, natural ingredients in a pocket size delicious square of fun,” says Kalen. “Watch for funky fresh webisodes from Sweetgrass and Soul Ryders Productions where I’ll be chomping on Kate’s bars and skiing epic lines!”
