Italian footwear manufacturer Kayland® was recently awarded the Best in Gear (B.I.G.) Award by Rock and Ice, the only climber-owned and operated climbing magazine. Taking honors was Kayland’s M11, a lightweight, versatile mountaineering boot ideal for ice, mixed terrain and high altitude. “It’s one of the most versatile boots we’ve tested,” said the Rock and Ice editorial team.

“We are honored to be recognized by such a well respected and authentic member of the climbing community explained Brent Merriam, Vice President, Novation North America. “We strive to be worthy of this recognition by offering the most precise fitting, highest performing shoes on the market.”

At home on the ice, the M11 offers a low profile shape, comfortable fit and excellent insulation. The boot’s new Lace Lock System allows the wearer to cinch laces to the desired tightness over the forefoot, automatically locking the lace in place, and allowing the wearer to tighten the laces around the ankle and shin, without losing the tightness over the forefoot. Lined with top-of-the-line Dryver, Primaloft, and eVent fabrics the M11 is topped off with a streamlined Schoeller gator for extra coverage.

A Vibram sole provides precise grip and superb durability. Finally, Kayland’s Engineered Composite Technology (E.C.T.) insole is designed to provide ergonomically appropriate flex and stability throughout the insole. The forefoot provides spring for better push-off, while the heel and arch areas offer improved support and torsional stability. Available in black and silver for automatic crampons in men’s size 7-13 including half sizes, M11’s suggested retail price is $379.95.
