PORTLAND, Ore. (DATE, 2020) — Over a one week period, KEEN, Inc (KEEN), donated 10 percent of all sales from KEENfootwear.com and KEEN Garage stores to on-going Australia bushfire relief. KEEN successfully raised more than $88K and donated 1,400 pairs of KEEN workboots to local fire-fighting services.
The charitable funds will be divided between several organizations working to rebuild Australian communities, improving animal welfare and more:
- $50,000 will go to the Dunmore Rural Fire Service to help cover the costs of fighting fires and to help build a new fire station this year.
- $19,000 will go to All Hands & Hearts to open and staff a new volunteer base on Kangaroo Island, Victoria. Relief efforts at the volunteer base will focus mostly on rural economic and land needs, such as debris removal, fence repair, sediment fencing, water system restoration, tree removals, tree plantings, and wildlife habitat triage.
- $19,000 will go to Zoos Victoria’s Bushfire Emergency Wildlife Fund to help provide veterinary care for burn victims, habitat restoration, and wildlife refugee care.
In partnership with their Australian distributor Phoenix Leisure Group, KEEN has donated nearly 1,400 pairs of its work boots to rural fire service crews across the Illawarra region, and dozens of KEEN employees crafted handmade joey pouches and koala mittens for donation to The Rescue Collective in Queensland.
“Helping communities impacted by natural disasters has been part of our DNA since our inception because it’s the right thing to do,” said Chris Enlow, Senior Director KEEN Effect. “This is part of an on-going effort working closely with organizations on the ground in the impacted areas”, said Enlow.
The KEEN Effect started in 2004 by taking action and helping those directly impacted by natural disasters by making a $1 million donation to Indonesian Tsunami victims. Since then, the philanthropic arm of the company has donated more than $19 million to nonprofit organizations and causes around the world through disaster relief, shoe donations and grants.
