This summer KEEN is generating awareness and visibility for the Conservation Alliance and its grantees through Hybrid.Pedal. The nearly 1,000-mile cycling fundraiser kicks off July 25th, in Portland, OR, and concludes 14 days later on August 7th in Salt Lake City, UT, just before the August 2007 Outdoor Retailer show.
On July 24th, Portland, OR-based Widmer Brewing Co. kicks off the festivities, sponsoring a pre-ride happy hour at KEEN Headquarters in the Pearl District at 5:30 pm. As many as 200 attendees are expected, including Conservation Alliance grantee, Oregon Wild, Conservation Alliance members, Hybrid.Pedal 14-day riders, Hybrid.Pedal first-leg riders (Days 1 – 7), Day 1 Hybrid.Pedal riders (July 25th), and KEEN employees.
Hybrid.Pedal begins on July 25th with a 6:30am breakfast at the KEEN offices in Portland, OR, and official departure at 7:30am. This ride will include Hybrid.Pedal 14-day riders, Hybrid.Pedal first-leg riders and Day 1 Hybrid.Pedal riders. The Day 1 route takes riders along a scenic route from Portland, OR, covering 60 miles and 6,010 feet in elevation gain along the way to Government Camp, OR.
The entire ride will be filmed, with highlights shown at a KEEN event on August 10th at Squatters in Salt Lake City, UT during Outdoor Retailer. The Hybrid.Pedal documentary will be released at select outdoor film festivals to continue to build the momentum generated by the ride.
