FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—Portland, OR – May 30, 2007 – KEEN Inc. is proud to announce that filmmaker Dan Austin will be documenting the KEEN sponsored Hybrid.Pedal event this summer. The 1000-mile cycling fundraiser benefits the Conservation Alliance and will travel from Portland, OR to Salt Lake City, UT from July 25 – August 7, 2007 and, along the route, highlight many of the endangered wildlands The Conservation Alliance has helped protect. The resulting documentary will be shown at Outdoor Retailer on August 10, 2007 in Salt Lake City, UT and then released at select outdoor film festivals to continue to build the momentum.

Dan Austin has explored old paths and new throughout the world. His directorial credits include Petionville, a documentary exploring the lives of Haitian street children, and True Fans, a documentary film about his three-month mountain-bike pilgrimage across America. True Fans won the People’s Choice award at the Banff Mountain Film Festival and since its release in 1999, has screened worldwide, inspiring a musical from Broadway producer Bill Rosenfield and a book by the same title, written by Austin.

Recently Austin worked with Angelina Jolie on her feature-length documentary “A Moment in the World,” and founded the 88bikes project, which uses granular philanthropy to endow an orphanage in a different country every year with bicycles for all the kids as well as supplies and funds for upkeep and bike-repair apprenticeships. He is the author of two books including the forthcoming “The Road Trip Pilgrim’s Guide.” He splits his time between New York City, the Wasatch Mountains of Utah, and the intimate and unique pockets of culture throughout the world.
