KEEN Inc.—a leader in hybrid outdoor performance products, including footwear, socks and bags—announced its donation of almost 50 shoes to outfit the San Francisco Boys’Chorus with warm, waterproof footwear as they perform at the official swearing-in of President-elect Barack Obama on Tuesday, January 20, 2009.
KEEN provided a mix of the Kootenay WP, Bandon Boot WP and Blackcomb for the chorus – many of the boys do not have warm winter clothing since the climate in the Bay Area region of California is significantly more mild than that of Washington DC. The Grammy Award-winning boys chorus has been offering high quality performance experience and musical training to boys in the San Francisco Bay Area for sixty years.
The boys come from various parts of San Francisco and The SF Bay Area, and many come from some of the most disadvantaged neighborhoods in San Francisco and Oakland. No boy that passes the challenging auditions is turned away due to finances or background, and over 1/3 of the boys are on some level of financial aid from the San Francisco Boys Chorus to help cover their tuition and costs as a part of the San Francisco Boys Chorus.
“KEEN is thrilled not only that the San Francisco Boys Chorus specifically requested our footwear, but also to be able to supply their shoes at such a historically momentous occasion,†notes Linda Tom, Cause Manager at KEEN, “The SF Boys Chorus is a fantastic organization and KEEN footwear will definitely keep the boys’ feet warm & dry during the inaugural ceremony, in spite of the freezing temperatures Washington D.C.â€
