SILVER SPRING, MD – American Hiking Society (AHS) is proud to announce that attendees of the Summer Outdoor Retailer tradeshow in Salt Lake City on August 1 – 5, 2012, will have the chance to support its trail programs by keeping warm and becoming informed. Corporate partners of AHS are planning some entertaining benefit events at their tradeshow booths, and show attendees are encouraged to check out these great opportunities.
Winter may seem a distant dream as you read this, but icy temperatures are coming – and it’s wise to be prepared. Visitors to Adventure Medical Kits’ booth (#13019) will be able to obtain the SOL Sport Utility Blanket for a $10 donation, with proceeds going to the donor’s choice of three organizations: American Hiking Society, NOLS Scholarship Fund, or Rocky Mountain Search and Rescue Dogs. The SOL Sport Utility Blanket is a newly-developed, portable shelter which can be used in a variety of different ways during outdoor adventures. Even with many times the strength of similar multi-use blankets and tarps, the Sport Utility Blanket still weighs only 11.3 oz.; plus it has a 95% heat reflectivity rating. The blankets will be available at the AMK booth for the duration of the show. Show attendees are encouraged to support a worthy cause while simultaneously increasing their preparedness for outdoor adventures.
“We are really proud to give everyone at Outdoor Retailer a nice deal on our Sport Utility Blanket while supporting three great organizations – AHS, NOLS and the Rocky Mountain Search and Rescue Dogs – at the same time,” says Frank Meyer, CMO and Adventure Medical Kits Founder.
Show attendees who wish to explore Salt Lake City’s scenic landscapes while at the tradeshow should definitely plan to visit the FalconGuides booth (#33035) on Saturday, August 4, from 3 to 4 pm. During this hour-long event , show attendees will have a chance to meet Lori Lee, author of Best Hikes Near Salt Lake City, and obtain a signed copy of her book for a $5 donation to American Hiking Society. This informative book contains detailed descriptions of forty-two of the best hikes in the area, nearly all of them within an hour’s drive of Salt Lake City, Utah—from Deseret Peak to Waterfall Canyon. The hikes offer unbeatable views, waterfalls, mountain lakes, and fields of wildflowers. The hike profiles feature full-color photos; brief route descriptions; thorough directions to the trailhead (GPS coordinates included); a detailed, full-color trail map; and at-a-glance information on distance and level of difficulty, hiking time, canine compatibility, and fees and permits.
“The FalconGuides team is proud to partner with the American Hiking Society and is thrilled to offer Best Hikes Near Salt Lake City to help their cause,” stated Shana Capozza, Director of Marketing and PR for Globe Pequot Press/FalconGuides. “The author of Best Hikes Near Salt Lake City, Lori Lee, embraces adventure and leads readers along on their journey.”
Outdoor adventurers seeking a different kind of experience in the woods will want to visit the Wilderness Press booth (#32074) from 3 to 5 pm on Friday, August 3. In exchange for a $10 donation to American Hiking Society, show attendees will be able to obtain a copy of Sex in a Tent by expert camper and outdoor love-maker Michelle Waitzman. Sex in a Tent is a mostly fun, sometimes serious, guide to love, sex, and adventure in the great outdoors. Like an outdoor guide with her own special territory, Michelle shares the best position for campers (the tent tango), provides recipes for a romantic meal in a Ziploc bag, and offers advice on how to look and feel sexy when you’re wearing grimy zip-off hiking shorts and haven’t bathed for days. She inspires readers to leave behind the boring bed sheets and crawl into a tantalizing tent.
“We are happy to help the tradeshow attendees support a great nonprofit and its work to preserve our precious trails, while also finding creative ways to warm their tent and each other,” said Rachel Freytag, Marketing and Publicity Manager of Wilderness Press.
“We are so grateful that our generous partners are offering these great benefit events,” commented Gregory Miller, President of American Hiking Society. “We appreciate their creative ideas for entertaining show attendees and simultaneously supporting our efforts to promote and preserve America’s trails, their surrounding natural areas, and the hiking experience.”
