Outdoor Veteran Brings First-Hand Experience to the Design Room

BOULDER, COLO. (February 4, 2016)  – Kelty (, known for its sturdy packs, sleeping bags, tents, shelters and outdoor gear, named Anne Miltenberger as its operations manager, effective immediately. Miltenberger will oversee customer service for both direct and wholesale products and sales. In addition, she will be a liaison between the internal sales managers, field representatives, product managers, procurement team and distribution facilities to ensure all customer inquiries and requirements are handled. Miltenberger has also played key roles in product development and testing to enhance the Kelty Built for Women initiative with her own professional insight and experience.

“Anne’s proven track record and personal sense of adventure is a perfect match for this position,” said Eric Greene, general manager at Kelty. “Kelty is committed to empowering and promoting women into key roles. Having Anne’s insight into the design process is a huge benefit. We’re able to make new gear with practical features that outdoor enthusiasts, and women in particular, have been craving.”

“I am looking forward to stepping into this new role that enables me to combine my passion for the outdoors and providing best in class service,” commented Miltenberger. “This is the best of both worlds. It’s empowering to be the first woman to hold the position, but even more so to have a creative hand in the design and testing process of gear built for women by women.”

Miltenberger has been with Kelty for almost 3 years working her way from dealer service rep to sales coordinator. While in the sales coordinator role, she contributed to the Business Analyst team for new systems implementation. Prior to Kelty, she worked at Aragon Elastomers, REI, and Cost Plus World Market, where she excelled in visual merchandising, quality and customer service improvement plans.

Kelty is enjoying a resurgence after its rebrand using #KeltyBuilt positioning showcasing the durability of its engineering, increased marketing initiatives and an expanded product line featuring products for urban dwellers.

In addition to biking cross country twice, Miltenberger successfully completed a difficult row across the Atlantic in 39 days as part of the The Atlantic Rowing Race, a 2,548 nautical mile race from the port of San Sebastian La Gomera, Canary Islands to Barbados in 2010. After finishing this brutal race that saw electrical problems as well as issues with its water filtering system, Miltenberger said, “It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Once you are out on the ocean, there’s no turning back, and I learned so much about how far I can push myself.”
