Annecy, Haute-Savoie, France – Salomon, a leader in mountain sports, is pleased to announce that world-champion ski mountaineer and mountain runner Kilian Jornet has signed on to train and compete exclusively in Salomon ski equipment. The partnership means Kilian has joined a dynamic team product developers, engineers, designers and highly-influential winter sports athletes like Greg Hill and Chris Rubens to create Salomon’s next generation of backcountry ski products.

“Ever since I began trail running, Salomon has always backed me up. Now, I’m excited to be taking our relationship even further to collaborate on some exciting new winter sports equipment ideas,” says Kilian Jornet.

This winter, the Spanish athlete intends to take part in the Ski Mountaineering World Cup events in all three modalities: individual, vertical race and sprint. In February, he plans to compete in the Ski Mountaineering World Championships in Verbier, France. He’ll also be working with Salomon on several special projects that will be announced in coming weeks.

“This season I’m also looking forward to the mythical team races like the Pierra Menta. It’s in these unforgettable races; one can feel the true spirit of ski mountaineering. I would like to race an all-embracing season in every sense, combining modalities and distances, which ultimately is what I have always enjoyed doing the most,” explains Kilian.

For the 2014/15 season, Kilian will be competing on custom ski equipment developed exclusively for him. The gear is not available to the public yet, as engineers will use Kilian’s influence and experiences to detail the products before bringing them to market. An important part of the Salomon winter sports equipment equation is involving athletes and ambassadors in the innovation and development process. Now that he is part of Salomon’s skiing family, Kilian has joined a collective of world-class skiers who together will introduce top-shelf gear made for those who make the mountains their playground and set their own rules for how they train and compete. Kilian’s collaboration builds on Salomon’s expertise in trail running and freeskiing and will enable users to move freely in the mountains.

Salomon was born in the French Alps in 1947. Our passion for mountain sport progression, product development, quality, and craftsmanship drives us to create progressive gear to enable freedom and help you challenge yourself in the mountains.
