(Chico, Calif.) Klean Kanteen, a California-based company that provides sustainable solutions to single-use plastic, has joined the 2013 America’s Cup prestigious sponsorship list as the Official Water Hydration Solution and Sustainability Supplier. Through the partnership, the America’s Cup has committed to be plastic bottle-free in its venues and Klean Kanteen will provide spectators with convenient water stations for reusable bottles.
“We’ve set ourselves a very ambitious target to rid single-use plastic bottles from our event,” said Jill Savery, Head of Sustainability for the America’s Cup. “Klean Kanteen will support our Healthy Oceans campaign that encourages America’s Cup spectators to give up their plastic bottles by providing a convenient, sustainable alternative. In addition, water hydration stations will pour local tap water—some of the cleanest in the country—thereby eliminating the unnecessary transport of drinking water and associated emissions.”

Klean Kanteen’s water hydration stations will be found throughout the America’s Cup Park, at Pier 27/29, and America’s Cup Village, at Marina Green, and will be open starting opening day, July 4.

“Both the America’s Cup and the city of San Francisco have taken a very progressive stance on single use plastic and we’re proud to help provide them with sustainable solutions,” says Scott McGuire, Director of Sales and Marketing at Klean Kanteen. “We’re also perfectly aligned with the America’s Cup in their efforts to educate the public about the threats of plastic pollution in the oceans. As a truly global event, the America’s cup is setting a new benchmark for its commitment to sustainability.”
From its inception, Klean Kanteen has sought to provide sustainable, plastic-free solutions for consumers. Nine years ago, the brand introduced BPA-free, stainless steel water bottles. Today, Klean Kanteen offers everything from stainless steel food canisters, to pint cups and baby bottles, all designed to reduce our reliance on disposable plastic containers. In the past several years the company has also partnered with numerous large events around the country to drastically decrease their waste and plastic consumption through reusable containers.
About Klean Kanteen
In 2004, Klean Kanteen released the first stainless steel water bottle onto the market because we wanted to give people something better than plastic: a lightweight, re-usable, body-friendly bottle free of bisphenol A (BPA). Klean Kanteen has grown from a tiny, upstart company to a leader in the stainless beverage bottle industry. In addition to including environmental and fair labor consciousness in our business practices, we partner with local, national, and international organizations to support efforts toward health, clean drinking water, and protecting the environment. In 2008, Klean Kanteen became a member of 1% for the Planet, committing to donation of at least 1% of our annual sales to non-profits working to protect and promote the wellness of this one great Earth. Every time you refill your Klean Kanteen, you’re making a positive choice for your own health and for the health of our planet. For more information, please visit www.kleankanteen.com.
About the America’s Cup
One of the most fiercely competitive and sought after trophies in all of sport, the America’s Cup was first raced in 1851, 45 years before the modern Olympics. The U.S. yacht America won, giving the international sailing competition its name.
The next Louis Vuitton Cup, America’s Cup Challenger Series (July-August 2013), leading to the America’s Cup Finals (September 2013), will be held for the first time in San Francisco Bay, a natural sailing arena, in AC72 wing sail catamarans.
