Kokatat Supports Sea Kayakers’ Circumnavigation of Great Britain

ARCATA, Calif., – Kokatat, the 39-year-old independent paddlewear and accessories manufacturer, is supporting a slew of Spring 2010 circumnavigations around the globe. The latest, an expedition by 24 year-old James Bonell and 28 year-old Joe Andrews, will find the pair circumnavigating Great Britain in sea kayaks. The pair will set off from Falmouth, Great Britain in April and will complete the 3,000-mile journey while raising money for some close-to-home charities.

“Having already completed a few of the more common long-distance trips within the U.K., a circumnavigation is a fitting way to close the loop,” Bonell said. “Beyond completing the expedition, to raise awareness and funds for charities with which Joe and I have personal ties, is chief among our objectives.”

Fundraising will be split equally between the National Association for Colitis and Crohn’s Disease (James’ sister was recently diagnosed with Chron’s) and Wateraid. The fundraising target is £20,000.

Although a Great Britain circumnavigation has been done before, it is a journey with some of the strongest tides in the world, inevitable storms and miles of exposed coast. The expedition will not be without some “firsts”, however, as James will be the first person to cycle the length and width of Britain, and the first to circumnavigate by kayak.
