La Sportiva mountain running ambassador Pam Smith won this weekend’s Western States 100, finishing the grueling course in 18 hours and 37 minutes, more than 40 minutes ahead of the second place finisher. Combined with La Sportiva ambassadors Laura Haefeli and Eric Blake sweeping the Mt Washington Hill Climb, Jenny Capel winning the San Diego 100M, and Kristina Folcik winning the Cayuga 50K, the La Sportiva mountain running team has had a month for the record books.
“Our Mountain Running Team is a source of constant inspiration and pride for us,” states Jonathan Lantz, president of La Sportiva North America. “We’re fortunate to have some of the best runners in the world testing and wearing our shoes and apparel and this past June the team surpassed all our expectations with big wins in high profile races around the country.”

This year’s Western States 100 was a brutal affair with temperatures soaring throughout the day. Pam Smith overcame the heat to take home the win. A full race recap, including a finish line interview is available at Bryon Powell’s ultrarunning web site irunfar.com: http://www.irunfar.com/2013/06/2013-western-states-100-results.html.
In another brutal race that rises 4,650 feet in just 7.6 miles, La Sportiva was well represented with winners in both the men and women’s fields of the Mount Washington Road Race. Eric Blake won the men’s race in 59:57 and was the only racer to break the one-hour barrier. On the women’s side, Laura Haefeli took home the victory in 1:18:05. The San Diego 100 took place June 8-9 in San Diego and the women’s crown was taken home by Jenny Capel in 20:57:35. Full results can be found at: http://www.ultralive.net/sd100/webcast.php.
In the inaugural Cayuga Trails 50 Mile in Ithaca, New York, navigating wet trails was the name of the game and Kristina Folcik overtook the overwhelming race favorite to capture the victory in 8:26:42, more than 20 minutes faster than the second place finisher. Again, iRunFar.com has the recap at: http://www.irunfar.com/2013/06/results-from-the-2013-cayuga-trails-50.html.
While the results in June were impressive, the team is not done yet with numerous races still to come on the schedule, including La Sportiva’s own Mountain Cup, which wraps up with the Jupiter Peak Steeplechase in Park City, UT on August 3, 2013.
