For Spring 2014, La Sportiva, makers of the world’s finest mountain products for over 80 years, unveils a new line of climbing apparel that focuses on the same technical performance and quality found in their footwear. The new line follows the successful recent launch of La Sportiva skis, boots and winter outerwear and rounds out the collection with garments featuring technical designs and casual silhouettes.

“We’ve designed our new climbing apparel with a focus on function, much in the same way that we’ve always obsessed about function first in our footwear designs,” says Jonathan Lantz, president of La Sportiva. “From the original concept to the final product, every detail in the product serves a purpose to meet the demands of the modern climber. Of course, it looks great too, with a stylish, progressive aesthetic that appeals to a younger generation. ”
The Spring 2014 La Sportiva collection features top-of-the line materials including 100 percent organic cotton, brand new cutting-edge Cordura® fabrics, cruelty-free merino wool and high-performance stretch wovens. The line targets modern day climbers that move from the boulder, to the crag, to the gym, and then to town. The aesthetics feature contemporary silhouettes while paying homage to vintage styles and La Sportiva’s rich climbing heritage.
The shirt program uses crosscut diagonally biased side panels to allow full freedom of movement and to eliminate under arm seams. For men, the Astroman Tank is loose fitting for freedom of movement while the “Climbing on the Moon” short sleeve shirt embraces the retro spirit. For women, the Honkey Tank Top is a stylish, deep-v cut with halter straps for customizable fit.

The shorts and pants in the collection are fully featured with easy access reinforced pockets, toothbrush holders, zippered stash pockets for route guides and quick cinch cuffs in a variety of length and materials. For men, the Chironico Short is made from a stretch Cordura fabric for durability and has a gusseted crotch for freedom of movement while the Sender Jean is a slim-fit Cordura denim pant with added Lycra for stretch. The Oliana Short was designed for female climbers with a stretch cotton/lycra fabric and a comfort waist construction. The Ballerina Capri is made from a cotton spandex blend for flexibility, while the women’s Sender Jean has a skinny fit with modern, clean lines and mountain detailing on the rear pockets for a look that’s as good at the crag as at the bar.
Hooded tops, an essential lifestyle piece for most climbers, are a mainstay to the collection. The Bishop Hoody for men is constructed from a 12-ounce heavy cotton American fleece and features a kangaroo pocket for keeping things warm, the Bleau Hoody for women is a cozy pullover knitted from a mix of merino wool and acrylic for durability. It’s safe to say that this hoody will become a favorite in many women’s climbing wardrobes.
The full line of Spring 2014 La Sportiva products, including footwear and apparel for Climbing, Hiking, Mountaineering and Mountain Running, will be on display throughout the 2013 OR Summer Market at the La Sportiva booth #18027.
