BOULDER, COLO – March 13, 2018

La Sportiva has won the coveted 2018 Backpacker Editor’s Choice award for the Trango Tower GTX, a 3-season ultralight alpine climbing boot. Presented in today’s Backpacker Gear Guide, Editor’s Choice is the stamp of approval for outdoor products.
“The Trango series of boots has been a staple of the La Sportiva lineup for years and has become synonymous with performance in alpine terrain,” said Jonathan Lantz, president of La Sportiva North America. “Our latest iteration, the Trango Tower GTX, is a 3-season boot that is even lighter than its predecessors while still improving performance. The Honey-Comb Guard uppers are highly abrasion resistant while actually reducing weight of the overall boot. All alpine enthusiasts will see their performance improve while wearing this boot.”
The Trango Tower GTX is a 3-season alpine climbing boot that uses durable Honey-Comb Guard uppers for abrasion resistance. Rocks, ice, scree, and deadfall will all have a hard time penetrating the stiff mesh and it reduces overall boot weight significantly compared to leather. Gore-Tex Performance Comfort ensures waterproof breathability and the exclusive La Sportiva “ONE” sole by Vibram with the Impact Brake System provides all-day comfort even in a stiff alpine boot. The Trango Tower GTX retails for $350.
According to Maren Horjus, who led the review, “The Trango Tower is either the sturdiest hiking boot we’ve ever tried – or the nimblest mountaineering boot. Whatever its classification, it served us well on everything from overhanging ice climbs in Colorado’s East Vail, to a July summit bid up Mt. Shasta to every, long dusty approach in between.
The Trango Tower GTX is on sale now at specialty retailers and www.sportiva.com. The complete list of Backpacker Editor’s Choice award winners is available today in the magazine’s spring Gear Guide.
