Lance Mackey wins 2009 Iditarod

TORONTO (March 19, 2009) – Lance Mackey, champion dog sled racer who is sponsored by Canada Goose, the premier global brand of Canadian-made, down-insulated outerwear for extreme climates, wins the 2009 Iditarod, joining elite company to become one of the only mushers to ever win the race three years in a row.
Crossing the finish line yesterday after more than 10 days on the trail, Lance Mackey and his dog sled team made history in the last great race on earth, one of only two 1000-mile races on the planet that crosses some of the most extreme and rugged Alaskan terrains: mountain rangers, frozen rivers, dense forests, desolate tundra and windswept tundra.

Six years before winning the Iditarod and Canada’s Yukon Quest back to back in 2007 and 2008, Mackey was diagnosed with life-threatening throat cancer. After undergoing extensive surgery and radiation treatment following the 2001 Iditarod, Mackey is now a cancer survivor dedicated to giving others hope for the future. Mackey now runs “Mackey’s Comeback Kennel” (www.mackeyscomebackkennel.com), a canine rescue operation and is an internationally renowned motivational speaker. Along with his multiple Iditarod victories, Mackey is also a four-time winner of the 1000-mile Yukon Quest.
