World’s largest fitness facility at sea features extensive array of Life Fitness equipment
Life Fitness teams with Royal Caribbean for numerous cruise ship firsts
SCHILLER PARK, Ill. – Aug. 24, 2006 – When it comes to cruise ship fitness facilities, the one aboard Royal Caribbean International’s new Freedom of the Seas is in a class by itself. The vessel’s ShipShape Fitness Center is the largest fitness facility ever to ride the high seas and features an extensive array of Life Fitness equipment.
Life Fitness, the leading manufacturer of a full line of commercial cardiovascular and strength-training equipment, teamed with Royal Caribbean to provide nearly all of the fitness equipment for Freedom of the Seas’ fitness facility, which enjoys a number of cruise ship fitness center “firsts.†The vessel is the first with a full line of cable motion equipment, the first with Hammer Strength Motion Technology Selectorized strength-training machines, the first to include a Pilates studio, the first to have a night club-style indoor cycling class and the first to offer a group treadmill class.
“Cruise ship guests expect nothing but the best, including a top-of-the-line fitness facility with the same premium equipment they use in their local health clubs and fitness centers,†said Jay Megna, executive vice president and general manager, Commercial Business Unit, Life Fitness. “In addition, many passengers want to expand their horizons and try something new while on vacation. The broad range of Life Fitness equipment on Freedom of the Seas will meet the needs of everyone on board, from novice exercisers interested in trying out different kinds of fitness equipment to fitness enthusiasts looking to maintain their regimens and stay in shape while at sea.â€
Cruise ship fitness facility firsts with Life Fitness equipment
Among the more than 140 pieces of Life Fitness cardiovascular, strength-training, core-training and Peak Pilates equipment sailing on Freedom of the Seas are five units from the company’s Cable Motion Series strength line, making the ship the first one with a full line of cable motion equipment. In addition, the 10 Hammer Strength MTS pieces on board make Freedom of the Seas the first cruise ship with equipment from this innovative line. Both the Life Fitness Cable Motion Series and Hammer Strength MTS machines let exercisers move their limbs independently of one another, providing an endless variety of strength exercises that build balance, stability and power.
In another first, eight Life Fitness Peak PilateSystem Reformer models give Freedom of the Seas the first-ever Pilates studio found on a cruise ship.
Freedom of the Seas also offers passengers two group exercise classes that are the first of their kind aboard a cruise ship. The Night Klub indoor cycling program, the first night club-style indoor cycling class at sea, utilizes Life Fitness’ RevMaster bikes and is held in a high-tech studio with a night club-style light show throughout the class. In addition, the ship uses six Life Fitness treadmills for Trekking, the world’s first group treadmill class at sea.
Finally, Freedom of the Seas is the first Royal Caribbean ship that has equipped all of its cardio pieces with personal LCD screens. The Life Fitness Attachable LCD with E-Z TV Console systems help keep guests entertained while they work out.
