Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort Wins NSAA Annual Safety Award for its Lids on Kids Program

Las Vegas—Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort (LVSSR) wins the National Ski Areas Association’s (NSAA) National Ski Area Safety award for its Lids on Kids program. LVSSR has the distinction of its Lids on Kids program being recognized as the Best Helmet Safety Program for the 2011/12 season. LVSSR was selected among a national pool of nominees and will be featured in the August issue of the NSAA Journal.

Over the past five years, LVSSR has conducted its Lids on Kids program, a month-long helmet safety campaign in January to coincide with the kick-off of NSAA Safety Week. This past season, LVSSR partnered with Centennial Hills Hospital to provide 318 local children with free helmets. Since implementing the program, LVSSR has provided more than 1,000 area youth with free helmets.

In addition, the program includes a Skier/Snowboarder Safety Responsibility Code class, presented by a National Ski Patrol member for both children and their parents. After the class and short video, each child is fitted with a helmet and parents are given instructions on proper fit and usage.

“This is a tremendous honor,” says Kevin Stickelman, LVSSR’s president and general manager.“A child’s safety on the mountain is of the utmost importance. By offering free helmets along with education, we can instill strong safety values in our youth. Our goal is to foster a community of responsible skiers and boarders.”

LVSSR plans to continue with the Lids on Kids Program during the 2012/13 season.
