SILVER SPRING, MD – American Hiking Society (AHS) is proud to announce a new partnership with LED Lenser US (a Leatherman Tool Group company). In its new role as one of AHS’ corporate donors , LED Lenser joins other leading outdoor manufacturers and retailers in supporting AHS and its efforts to promote and protectAmerica’s hiking trails, their surrounding natural areas, and the hiking experience.
“We are extremely grateful for the support that LED Lenser has offered,” commented Gregory Miller, AHS President.“The lightweight, pocket-sized flashlights that they have donated will be an excellent incentive for our upcoming membership campaign, and we will be happy to help outfit new AHS members with an item that is so important for hiker safety,” he added.
American Hiking has recently launched an expanded public awareness effort to promote safer enjoyment of outdoor adventures, and part of the message is that every hiker should be properly prepared with the 10 Essentials of hiking.The 10 Essentials list includes:1) appropriate footwear; 2) map & compass/GPS; 3) extra water and a way to purify it; 4) extra food; 5) rain gear and extra clothing; 6) safety items: fire, light, and a whistle; 7) first aid kit; 8) knife or multi-purpose tool;9) sunscreen and sunglasses; and 10) a daypack or backpack.
“Taking a quality flashlight like the LED Lenser along on a hike is good insurance against being lost in the dark if sunset should occur sooner than anticipated,” said Miller.“We believe that all hikers should tuck a sturdy flashlight or headlamp into their packs, and we are pleased that LED Lenser has made this important safety item available to AHS,” he concluded.
