LEKI USA and Nordic Walking North America Team Up For Physical Therapy

Leading pole manufacturer LEKI USA and Nordic Walking North America (NWNA) joined forces to participate in the American Physical Therapy Association Combined Sections Meeting in San Diego this past weekend. In addition to promoting the benefits of Nordic Walking and associated products and services as exhibitors at the conference, the two companies also hosted an hour-long Nordic Walking session for over 100 physical therapists on Saturday morning outside the San Diego Convention Center.

Nordic Walking, or fitness walking with lightweight poles, is an easy and beneficial activity that enables physical therapy patients to quickly return to an active lifestyle after a health setback or injury. It provides more than just a form of exercise, and it’s particularly good for those who can no longer take the steady pounding of running or jogging but desire similar benefits. More and more physical therapists are incorporating Nordic Walking into their treatment programs and wellness classes, and PT patients are very receptive to this form of exercise over the use of canes and walkers.

“Nordic Walking is an excellent way to promote health and wellness, and can serve multiple PT populations at varying fitness levels,” said Physical Therapist Charles Casey from Sierra Vista, Arizona and a participant in the Nordic Walking session on Saturday. “As a former multi sport competitor I am always looking for new and exciting ways to stay fit, and I will definitely continue to Nordic Walk on my own as well.”

Laura Stalling, a physical therapist from Chicago, IL, also participated in the walk on Saturday and said “Nordic Walking is a great tool for rehabilitation. It facilitates arm swing and activates core musculature, which is often lacking in our patients with neurological issues.”
