Life Fitness elliptical cross-trainer earns
international design honor

Good Design Award recognizes Life Fitness’ 95Xi

SCHILLER PARK, Ill. – Jan. 17, 2006 – Life Fitness, the leading manufacturer of a full line of commercial cardiovascular and strength-training equipment, is pleased to announce that its 95Xi elliptical cross-trainer has earned a prestigious 2005 Good Design Award from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design. The Good Design Award program “publicly acknowledges the world’s most prestigious industrial design firms and manufacturers in over 20 countries,” according to the museum.

“Our customers want equipment that differentiates their facilities, so together with Cesaroni Design Associates, we developed the 95Xi with a dynamic look and superior biomechanics. The result is a cross-trainer that will help them attract and retain members,” said Peter B. Hamilton, president, Life Fitness. “We’re proud to have received this distinguished honor and feel it recognizes the continuous dedication to technology, design and innovation that customers have come to expect from Life Fitness.”

Designed for health clubs and fitness facilities, the 95Xi elliptical cross-trainer is the sixth Life Fitness product that has been given a Good Design Award. Other Life Fitness products for health clubs and fitness facilities that have won are the 95Ci Lifecycle exercise bike and the CT9500HR, CT9100 and CT8500 elliptical cross-trainers. The CT5500 elliptical cross-trainer for home use also has received a Good Design Award.

The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design is one of Chicago area’s most prestigious cultural institutions and the only museum of architecture and design in the United States. The museum’s Good Design program was founded in 1950 by pioneers of American and modern design and is one of the oldest and most important design competitions in the world. This year, the museum received hundreds of submissions from all over the world and bestowed more than 150 Good Design Awards in categories including electronics, household appliances, and sports and recreation.

The products were judged on a variety of criteria, including concept, construction, form, function, innovation and utility. The judges also considered product appearance and aesthetic appeal.

All of the 2005 winners are posted on the museum’s Web site, www.chi-athenaeum.org.

95Xi elliptical cross-trainer

The 95Xi elliptical cross-trainer combines advanced biomechanics with a cutting-edge industrial design. A mix of metallic silver and gray tones gives the cross-trainer a contemporary look. Ergonomically correct moving arm handles provide a total-body workout, and 30 workouts give health club and fitness facility users lots of exercise variety. The pedal design allows users to adjust foot position comfortably, and 2.8 inch pedal spacing minimizes lateral shifting of the hips, which reduces lower back stress. For monitoring and maintaining heart rates, the 95Xi comes with hand sensors and a chest strap, along with five interactive heart rate programs that adjust the cross-trainer’s resistance to keep the user within a target heart rate zone.
