Schiller Park, Ill. (May 23, 2008) – To most people, an old whiskey refinery wouldn’t be of much use, but to Joe Williams, it was the perfect place to open a fitness center.

Located in the historic downtown area of Troy, Ohio, Troy Strength features original exposed brick walls, high ceilings and a hint of barley. The long, narrow hallways, and short rectangular rooms in the 2,000-square-foot building, limited Williams to the type, and amount, of equipment he could install. But with a great downtown location, Williams took on the unique challenge of developing a gym.

Williams knew a smart, efficient layout was key to providing a fitness center for exercisers of all abilities and levels, so every piece of equipment had to be well thought out. That’s when Williams turned to Life Fitness for advice and expertise.

“We wanted a facility that could accommodate everyone from beginners to advanced exercisers, but didn’t think it would be possible with our size limitations,” said Williams, owner of Troy Strength. “Life Fitness and Hammer Strength were able to not only get the most important pieces of equipment in and laid out effectively, but also helped us become an Official Hammer Strength Training Center. Our members appreciate the quality of workout they get in this unique building.”

Today, Troy Strength showcases a select group of more than 15 pieces of equipment, including Hammer Strength plate-loaded equipment, an assisted dip/chin Machine, free weight benches and racks, and a Life Fitness treadmill and elliptical cross-trainer.

Troy Strength, which opened in December of 2007, exceeded its six- month membership goal of 60 to boast 85 members during that time period.

“Gym owners like Joe Williams are helping make fitness a way of life for people of all ages and abilities,” said John Stransky, president of Life Fitness. “Even with the challenge of a unique space, Troy Strength was able to design a fitness space that will benefit exercisers of all levels.”
