Mammoth Lakes, CA (August 20, 2015)—Deena Kastor, Olympic Bronze Medalist, American Record Holder and one of the most decorated runners in U.S. history, will host the first annual Mammoth Running Escape from September 10-13, 2015. Hosted at the Westin Monache Hotel in Mammoth Lakes, the all inclusive weekend (not including travel) welcomes runners of all levels who will be treated to a “red carpet” experience that includes four-star accommodations, gourmet meals and snacks, exclusive classes with Deena and transport to all Escape runs and event locations.
Mammoth Lakes, CA offers breathtaking views and scenic running routes which is why the town has forged many great Olympians, including Kastor and Meb Keflezighi. The retreat will allow runners to explore bountiful and breathtaking local trails alongside Kastor, including a run to Rainbow Falls and Devil’s Postpile National Monument. As a motivational speaker for corporations and clubs, Kastor also aims to inspire and guide runners through daily motivational and coaching sessions to help optimize their training and empower their minds towards goal setting and achievement.
After a full day experiencing how the best runners in the world live and train, runners will unwind with gourmet beer tastings, carefully hand selected meals by Kastor and fireside chats. The weekend will also include an exclusive cooking demo with Kastor who is well known for her culinary prowess. The final day of the escape will include a leisure run to the top of Mammoth Mountain followed by a champagne brunch and scenic gondola ride.
Also a mother who believes in giving back to her community, Kastor looks forward to welcoming runners to Mammoth Lakes, which she has made her home for 15 years. Complimentary transportation will be provided by the Westin Monache to guests travelling via the Mammoth Lakes/Yosemite airport. About Deena Kastor:
Deena’s career is earmarked by her groundbreaking 2004 Olympic Bronze Medal in the marathon in Athens, Greece. Deena is currently the American Record Holder in the marathon (2:19:36) and half marathon (1:07:34) and has held American records in a distances from 5K to the marathon. She has made 19 U.S. Teams, won 18 U.S. titles and earned two Silver Medals at the World Cross-Country Championships. In 2014 Deena set 5 world masters records in one race during the Philadelphia Rock ‘n’ Roll Half-Marathon. Deena has called the town of Mammoth Lakes, CA home for the last 15 years where the altitude of 8,050 feet and simple mountain lifestyle have enhanced her running and allowed all aspects of her life to thrive.
