Livingston, Dehlin, and Callahan Kick-Start their 2010 Race Season

Red Wing, MN – April 21, 2010 – Vasque athletes are off to a great start this race season with top finishes over the weekend. Vasque athlete and new mom, Debbie Livingston, took first at the Traprock 50k, Dan Dehlin took first place at the Navarino Eco-Marathon, and Duncan Callahan finished in 6th at the Fruita 50 Miler.

Despite a mid-race nursing break, Livingston was first among the women and fifth overall, with a time of 5:17:01, in the inaugural Traprock 50K, held at Penwood State Park in Bloomfield, CT, this past Saturday. Race organizers designed the course as a three-loop event, so participants could choose their distance.

“The three loop format was new for me, but I liked it because one part was an out-and-back, so I could see who was close to me,” says Livingston. “With nursing, I definitely had to fuel up more than other races and I’m paying more attention to my recovery.”

In another win for Team Vasque, Dan Dehlin took first place at Saturday’s Navarino Eco-Marathon in Shioctin, WI, with a time of 2:53:55. This is his first race of the season and first trail race since having knee surgery last June.

The rolling double track course was two laps of a 13.1 mile loop. Dehlin reported the conditions were mostly “pretty firm and pretty fast”. Wind was the biggest obstacle of the day, with gusts over 25 mph.

“It was windy enough at one point to actually move me from one side of the two-track to the other side,” says Dehlin. “But this win puts me a long way towards my goal of working out the kinks before the Leadville Trail 100 in August.”

Duncan Callahan kicked off his 2010 race season this past weekend at the Spring Desert Ultra 50 miler in Fruita, CO, with a solid sixth place finish.
