Independent clothing manufacturer, Loki, celebrates its first decade in business with a tribute to the product that started it all, the Loki hat with ear flaps.
The hat was designed, sewn and sold by Loki’s founder Seth Anderson. Anderson explained that while sales and sewing came naturally, the other aspects of a formal business were missing. Encouraged by friends and family, Anderson “took the plunge†and officially launched Loki with friend and investor Jess Rigg in 1997.
Just one year later, in 1998 Loki was awarded a patent for the hat design which includes a neck gaiter. Loki has since sold close to 100,000 of these patented hats.
A winter climb on Colorado’s Mount Princeton provided inspiration for Loki’s next innovation, the Loki Mittâ„¢. The mitt is integrated into the sleeves of a jacket so they can be hidden away when not needed. At the same time, Anderson sewed half a neck gaiter into a jacket hood, making what evolved into the Loki Face Shieldâ„¢. Allowing for full or partial face coverage when needed, the face shield can also be flipped back and hidden away.
The Loki Face Shieldâ„¢ and Loki Mittâ„¢ are standard features on all Loki jackets from low-tech cotton Morf hoodies to the highest tech end of the line, the Levity shell with eVENT. Generating quite a buzz at the 2004 Outdoor Retailer Market, Loki’s Myth soft shell jacket was awarded “Best Pick of the Show.†Additional Loki design innovations include the N_pacâ„¢, a built-in lumbar pack that converts to a day pack and the Cuflokâ„¢ gaiter system available on the Dual soft shell and new Levity eVENT pant.
Just before the 2007 OR Winter Market, Loki was awarded a US utility patent for the LOKI Mittâ„¢ design. The mitt and the face shield are also patented or patent pending in Canada, Europe, and Asia.
The commemorative Loki hat is available for a limited time in one size and choice of two colors, black or fuchsia. Suggested retail is $32. To learn more about Loki and view the entire product line, visit http://www.lokiusa.com
