Combining inspiration, fund-raising and fun, LOWA Boots teams up with author, expedition leader and adventure speaker, Jim Davidson at the Summer Outdoor Retailer Show. They will celebrate the launch of his new book while raising much-needed funds for Big City Mountaineers, mentors of under-resourced urban teens. The goal is to sell 100 LOWA t-shirts at $20 each and the same number of books, individually autographed, at $26 each. EVERY dollar will count. ALL PROCEEDS, not just net, will be donated to Big City Mountaineers. The book signing and t-shirt sale will start at 4:00PM, Friday, August 5, in LOWA Booth # 32128. Visitors can then get “lubricated” after a keg is tapped at 5:00PM.

“Jim phoned one day to introduce himself,” commented Peter Sachs, LOWA’s general manager. “Ten minutes later, I was spellbound after he told me that his LOWA Civetta Extreme’s had literally saved his life, keeping his toes warm enough to be able to climb out of an 80′ crevasse. LOWA is honored to use this opportunity at the OR Show to spread Jim’s story as a way to help inspire others while raising money for Big City Mountaineers mentoring program.”

Jim’s new book, “The Ledge: An Adventure Story of Friendship and Survival on Mount Rainier” will not fail to inspire. On June 21, 1992, Jim Davidson and Mike Price, two friends and experienced climbing partners, summited Mount Rainier by the difficult Liberty Ridge route. As they descended the Emmons Glacier, a snowbridge collapsed beneath Jim’s feet without warning and dropped him into a hidden crevasse. As Jim plummeted, Mike tried to stop him but could not. The two friends dropped 80 feet into the glacier and were buried by falling snow. Mike did not survive. Trapped in the crevasse, Jim was alone. Devastated at the loss of his friend and surrounded by ice and fear, he knew he had to climb out or die. He lived and went on to use the experience to inspire others, in Mike’s honor, to conquer what might seem like the impossible. At Summer OR, 2011, his goal is to help raise funds for urban teenagers, many who are at risk of never realizing successful, productive futures.

Anyone not be able to attend the Show but who would like to donate to the worthy cause by purchasing a book or a t-shirt should email amy@lowa.net.
